Slacker!

I have just been posting videos lately... I have been super busy with school and work and of course ZUMBA!  Last week I did zumba 5 days, this week I am shooting for 4.  I have been going to the Y to do most of the workouts, but today I did a trail pass at the 24 hour fitness.  They are like little dirty car sells men.  I just wanted to go to a certain instructors class and did not want to join, and the membership man did not understand that.  UGH!
2 weeks ago I went to the hospital, but everything is fine, I took a few days off from working out, because after I left the hospital I got the flu, it was horrible... I did not leave my room for 3 days.  As a matter of fact, I was working out at the Y doing zumba on a Monday night and had to run out of the class because I felt like I was going to hurl... gross I know, it just shows my dedication!  ha...
Tonight I brought in the lead teacher of where I work to come and try Zumba out... She loved it, I hope.... I will see how she feels tomorrow... just trying to spread the good word!

Zumba + P90X + Weights

I have lost 2 lbs this past week!  YAY me!  I started doing weights for 20 minutes before each Zumba class.  I have not been doing P90X, it is my brothers and on his hard drive and he was on it during the times when I was home, oh well... I am doing legs tonight, pick up right where I left off.  Every little bit helps!  My legs are starting to look pretty ridiculous, like with muscle definition.  Maybe I will take a picture and post them... ha...

Day 3 P90X

I started this morning with an awesome Zumba class... Came home and popped in P90X. Arms and Shoulders. Oh MY!

It was pretty good, just a long dvd... again. I have bands and very light weights. I mostly used the bands. I could do almost everything, not as many reps as the people on the dvd though. In time I will though. Ab Ripper X sucked today. My ass was super sore from yesterday's crazy jumping exercises and so were my legs, so I did about half of the Ab Ripper X video. Hey, it's better than nothing.

I am going to be sore tomorrow...

I also ran for 25 minutes, it was a good stress reliever. Sweat, sweat sweating it out...

I think I want to purchase a kettle weight... maybe next week.

Update on my life... as of right now.

Hurray I sold my car today and got all caught up on my Spanish school work!  Yea for finally having a Saturday off!  Adios little red honda, you will be missed dearly!  :(

Acupuncture is something I first had done about a month ago, and I am addicted!  I went in completely freaked out, because I hate needles!  HATE THEM!  When a doctor tells me I need a shot I cry.... instant tears.  But I have had over 12 piercings... weird I know.
I totally had anxiety on the way down to Holistic Healing Center in Seattle (not the name of the place).  My cousin and I did it.
Three days a week a clinic in Seattle does Community Acupuncture on a sliding scale, so if you do not make much you could pay as low as $15 or up to $35, that is a deal!  Normally it is over $100.  The only downside is they treat multiple people in one room, which is fine with me.  It is a comfortable setting, and that is really all you need.  5 pricks in the ear and I felt like I was floating/drunk.... hmmm.... actually I would say more like I was tipsy.  I always say the weirdest things when I am in the drunk phase!  It makes a good laugh...
I went in looking for a cure to my sleeping problems, energy levels, and depression.  So far I do not need my sleeping pills to fall asleep, and my energy levels have increased BIG TIME.  We are still working on my depression.
Also, I have a benign tumor on one of my ovaries and I just did research and acupuncture might be able to break it up and shrink it!  How cool is that?  Adios tumor...
Sometimes, actually most of the time, when the needles are placed in the correct spot you get this weird sensation, like biting on foil... kind of a shock... but dull... I guess that is when the needle is hitting your chi, pretty interesting feeling.  At the most I have had 26 needles, and I am still working my way up.
My brother went for the first time with his girlfriend, and he just had knee surgery and want to gain his mobility back faster................. and acupuncture can help, the acupuncturist put needles in his elbows... weird right?  And my little brother has tremors and he said that he can help with that as well.... with needles in his neck... yikes, that sounds intense.
After every visit I sleep super good the next day and usually have the craziest most visual and believing dreams ever!  My cousin does too, her dream was too weird not to share.   I will just tell you the main characters... T-Rex, and Heath Ledger as a janitor.... in a warehouse that was like an apartment complex... let's just say she woke up and had to calm herself down... I could not stop laughing...
Here is a picture of the community acupuncture room... pretty chill...

Hurray for being crazy!

Great Zumba Song

Baby Come Back Zumba

Great song, it is super fun to dance to!

Enough is enough...

I have decided to kick things up in a big way... Yesterday I started P90X, I know it is not zumba and it is not a very fun program, but I needed to add something.  I am still going to go to zumba as  much as possible, in fact I am going to the YMCA tomorrow morning for their 9:30 am class, which will be lots of fun because that instructor does some burlesque songs.  Yippie,  I get to make a fool of myself trying to dance sexy-ish, in a very awkward way!
Plus I did a few zumba dances from youtube.com this evening on top of P90X...
So day 1 was yesterday of P90X.  Besides the point that the lead guy is super annoying and I can barely do one perfect push up, it went pretty well...  They are long routines though.  It gives you lots of breaks, which is nice.  I have to admit that I took some extra breaks.  It was the Chest and Arms Dvd.  And then the Ab Ripper X.  I think that is what it is called.  Holy cow, I could hardly do any of the ab stuff.... That was tough, but I stuck it out and finished.  I would say I did about 75% of everything, if you count doing push ups on your knees!
Day 2 was harder for sure, it was plyometrics.  A lot of jumping, lunges, and squats.  I stuck with the ENTIRE thing, but did only about 75%.  I modified what I needed to, like the move where you jump up and bring your knees up to your waist line, could not do that for the life of me.... so I just pretended like I was jumping rope.  Then jumping into lunges was tough for me too, I had no balance skills today.  So I just stretched it out in the lunges changing quickly from right to left leg.  You will never know how relieved I was when I was done.  That was over 50 minutes of craziness. I got through the first half and was saying to myself, "Is this ever going to be over..."  and  "I can't do all this..."  But I did and I could not be happier.
I am not following the nutritional stuff, I eat healthy already.  I just need to watch the amount of food I eat and I should be good.
Zumba at the Dojo 3 in Renton on Monday!  I could not be more excited, I think Monday is going to be the 1.5 hours of yoga.... I love yoga, but 1.5 hours with the crazy instructor guy on the dvd should be interesting.
Tomorrow is shoulders and arms along with a morning Zumba class... I can do this... I can do this... I can do this...

Estelle Ft Sean Paul - Come Over

The real video would not play... boo... Here is a great cool down, stretching song... I listen to it all the time.

great idea.

Wouldn't this be super fun!  Traveling around the country trying different zumba classes all over and spreading the word about how much fun it is!  Writing reviews about each class, doing like 2-3 classes a day... I think that would be so much fun!  And then ending in Florida where zumba began!  Amazing, yes I think so... hmm... I have a professional blogger/photographer and a friend that would totally do it!  Just need a sponsor... Zumba Across the America would be an appropriate name I think... oh one can only dream!

Zumba® with Eriko - Pegate by Grupo Treo - Merengue

My work schedule has changed, and I start school this week... stress times 10. Last week I was only able to do Zumba once, I feel like a failure! But I did run a few days too. I found a video to Pegate that shows the zumba moves, so I have added that song to my at home zumba workout party. YAY!

I have been out...

I was sick all last week... no fun whatsoever.  I did not work out once!  I feel icky now!  Yesterday was my first day back to Zumba.  It could not have been any better!  I feel so much more amazing!  It was just me and my friend Stacy, and we could not stop laughing at most of the moves.  It was just a silly night!
I think I will do yoga tonight, don't want to push my luck and just dive right back into my old routine, I still feel a little under the weather!

Dance Fitness: Danza Kuduro

I have this song and some of the moves stuck in my head! Don Omar - Danza Kuduro it is a remix...
So today is like dooms day for me.... It is my 27th birthday... boo.... I need something life changing to happen!  Like a big move to another country, someplace warm!  I have already been lucky enough to live in Costa Rica for 6 months, but I am ready to go now!  Seattle is great, but it is not for me.  GET ME OUTTA HERE!  I'm thinking Puerto Rico.... Anyone know of any tropical places that are hiring for preschool teachers?  or ANYTHING else?!

Zumba Fitness with Traci - ZUMBATOMIC - Electrifico

So stinking cute!

Ciara featuring Missy Elliott - Work ft. Missy Elliott

Recently I have stepped my game up and started running the morning, partially to help me wake up and energize me. I only run for 25 minutes, but still that is better than nothing. Since January I have lost 7 lbs. But more importantly I have measured myself. I did this about a week and a half ago. I have lost 3.25 inches, mostly from my tummy area. (.75 from my thighs) I started running on my treadmill about 3 weeks ago, on average 3-4 days a week.

I have never been able to run, NEVER, but thanks to Zumba my endurance has shot through the roof and I feel like I could keep going, if I was not bored.

I love running to this song, it is also a song they use for Zumba at the Dojo

Dance Fitness: "Power Bhangra"

My favorite instructor again!

Zumba - Pegate

This Sunday and Monday they had a Groupon at the Dojo 3 Studio in Renton, 20 Zumba classes for $24... amazing! And they just installed an industrial fan so no more wet floors! lol. Yesterdays Zumba class at th YMCA killed me! I was so sweaty! This is my new favorite Zumba song...

Zumba Instructor Convention 2010

I know I am a dork, but this gets me excited and wanting to do more!

Moto Moto - Big And Chunky (WHOLE SONG!)

Tonight's Zumba instructor at the YMCA used this song as a warm up, it was pretty funny!

Mohombi - Bumpy Ride

Pedometer at Zumba

At the Dojo 3 in Renton I decided to take my pedometer to track my steps in the class.  I wore the pedometer to work that day too.  I work at a preschool, so I run around a lot... a little over 3000 steps in a 3 hour time period.  So at Club Zumba I took over 3,900 steps, but not all of Zumba is steps, so it did not count everything... Amazing.  Just with dancing!  I was pretty impressed!  They say that around 2000 steps is a mile, depending on your how large your stride is....
I really want to get one of those Body Bugs to track the calories lost.  That would be neat, but very expensive!

Alright by Pitbull - Hip Hop w/some Latin-inspired moves

This is from the Dojo. When they had their old space. There new space is bigger, and now the instructor is on a stage. Yes the instructor screams a little too much. This is from their regular Zumba class. I really like this song btw.

Club Zumba @ Dojo 3

Here is kind of a creepy video of the Dojo. You can't hear the music... but you get the idea of what the Club Zumba class is...
The class is in Renton, and it is a lot of fun! When they turn the lights off I tend to work harder, (because people can't see me and how bad I am!). They are supposed to get mats put in sometime in the near future, that will be amazing because about 20 minutes into the class the floor is slippery and wet, gross!

Dance Fitness - Yeah (Batuka Remix)

This is my favorite instructor Michaela Wynters. She is amazing! I probably look like a big time fool dancing with her, but I swear I have never had so much fun or been so sweaty while working out before! Her schedule is on Zumba.com. I highly suggest going to her classes! She used to teach every Friday at the YMCA, but sadly not anymore!

Zumba for Kinect

I usually only workout during the week, and take the weekends to relax.  But last night I was feeling icky so I decided to pop in Zumba for Kinect.  I was able to do it for about 30 minutes.  I recognized a few songs, and it was kind of fun.  However, I lost interest fast.  Maybe it was my ADD kicking in, I don't know.  It is nothing like going to a real class, but hey, you gotta do what you gotta do.... Also, it has problems reading my hand movement when selecting things, anyone else have that problem?  I also wish they would categorize the music, I was in the mood for hip-hop last night, but had some issues searching for it, (it wasn't reading my hand movements to move the song selection).
Overall, if there are no classes in your area, I would say buy it now, but it really does not come close to the real deal!

Friday, February 25, 2011

So I only have one full body shot, that I could find... oh man.  I have recently lost 54lbs.  Well not recently it took awhile.... a long while... almost 2 years.  It all started when I became a vegan and started working out.
I lost 30 lbs real quick, I think it was because I cut out dairy.  But the rest has kind of been a struggle to lose.
I will find a before picture and post it.
Now I eat eggs and sometimes I will eat chicken, but other than that my diet really has not changed.  (I eat pretty healthy)
I started doing Zumba in November and feel in love with it.  I have only lost a few pounds, but my clothes fit much better and I am happy.

I am on the left, and I guess I am very excited to be on roller skates!

So here is the only picture I could find, it will do for now! This was from about 2 months ago.  So I am still the same size...

Zumba is for everyone

If I can do it, you can too.
I am the worst dancer ever!  I am not coordinated whatsoever!

Zumba is for everyone, true story.  It does not matter how old you are; I have seen people my grandma's age in my classes before and they have a class called Zumba Gold which is geared towards older adults.  It does not matter what size you are; I have seen every shape and size in Zumba classes, and I would not consider myself to be a skinny mini anyway.

Sometimes people just come in and dance their own dances and that is okay.  In the beginning of most of my classes the instructor's say, if you can't follow along just move around and have fun!
I have even seen a few gentlemen in the classes, although Zumba is not as popular for the guys I have seen it happen.

After your first class you will feel lost, but everyone feels the same way.  I still feel that way!  No one has any idea what they are doing.  It is just meant to be fun... I smile and laugh a lot during the classes.

If you don't know...

You can read about how Zumba was created and exactly what it is...

Hella Decalé - Dj Mam's feat Doukali & Soldat Jahman

Fun new Zumba song. Each instructor has different choreography, but this songs always kills my calves.... a lot of jumping on one leg.... kills in a good way!

Almost forgot...Federal Way Community Center

Here is the link to the Federal Way Community Center, you can look up their Zumba schedule for fun times.

This place is in a pretty new facility.  I wasn't sure what to expect because I do not go to Federal Way often, well like never, but it was nice.

ZUMBA - Merengue - Song "Yo te beso"

One of my favorite Zumba songs, I'm sure I look ridiculous trying to keep up, but it is so much fun! I'm not sure where this class is but the instructor seems awesome and like she would kick your ass into shape!

Zumba Fitness - Caipirinha Music Video

The first song that I was able to memorize all the Zumba moves, not very well of course, but I try!

Current Zumba Schedule

Monday:          Dojo in Reton @ 7:45pm

Tuesday:          YMCA @ 6:00pm

Wednesday:     YMCA @ 6:30pm

Thursday:         YMCA @ 6:30pm

Friday:             YMCA @ 6:30pm

Every class I go to is an hour.  The class at the Renton Dojo is a club Zumba class, which is where they turn the lights off and put on fun club lights.
I go to the YMCA because they have a great scholarship program that can pay up to 80% of the monthly fees if you qualify.  (I also do Yoga at the YMCA on Wednesdays too)

http://www.dojozumba.com/Renton_Studio.html
The Dojo is a really fun place to go.  The staff are very upbeat and very enthusiastic!  They remember names of the customers and always have smiles.  They offer a bunch of classes everyday.  Yes, it is very expensive to go to the Dojo, but I did a new membership special they had, which was $25 for 10 classes.  And I heard they will have a Groupon soon!

http://www.seattleymca.org/page.cfm?ID=bv
You can find the Zumba schedule here for the YMCA.  I like how they offer classes everyday and they are in the evenings.  The only thing I do not like about the YMCA Zumba classes is that it is a different instructor every night.  All the instructors are great, but that is a lot of different routines to get down!

You had me at belly scarves

I don't know if Mackenzie is the one to blame or thank, how about both?  Mackenzie invited my cousin Rebecca and I to our very first Zumba class all the way down in Federal Way.  I had no idea what the heck Zumba was....neither did Rebecca.  So we did not know what to expect....
We got to the Federal Way Community Center and went to our very first Zumba class....

'What the hell is this?'  I thought to myself, looking around at all the crazies!  (I mean that in a good way!)
Ballet slippers, belly dancing scarves, bright colored cloths, 30-40 women crammed into a room yelling and getting all excited...

Finally it started, oh no.  I was lost times 10.  Looking around at everyone else who were "getting it".  Cumbia, Bollywood, hip hop... oh my.... I can hardly dance and hold a drink, let alone dance to Latin music like I was in a video.

Mackenzie, Rebecca and I kept looking at each other and cracking up.  Yes, we were hot and sweaty, but we were also smiling and laughing.  I could not do even half of the steps and was just moving around, but still had so much fun.

The instructor was very nice, she was a sub.  She introduced herself to us in the beginning, I guess we looked like newbies.  She asked us how the class went when we were done.  Before she walked away she said that every class was different.

Needless to say, I went on a rampage to find a damn belly scarf.  It took a few days, because you know that you have seen them, but the moment you need one, they are no where to be found.  But me being a "go-getter" had to have it, and yes I found a place that sells them on Broadway for $20.... I know that is a lot, but we needed it... ha.
